Sri Jagannath Mandir at Peelamedu Coimbatore, the first ISKCON temple for Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladeva and Subhadra Devi, in South India had its humble beginning in a rented house at Saibaba Colony , Coimbatore in the year 1992. Under the guidance of HH Jayapataka Swami, ISKCON GBC and HH Bhakti Vinoda Swami, Zonal secretary, ISKCON, the congregation and temple devotees, through their hard work and dedication have achieved what stands today as a landmark of Coimbatore city.

Sri Jagannath Mandir was inaugurated on 4th Feb, 2001 by the then Honorable Prime Minister Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Since then, the temple has been the base for building over the years, a loving devotee community that cares, trusts and respects each other and jointly endeavours to please Lord Krishna and Srila Prabhupada by spreading the message of Love of God.

Located on a sprawling 8 acres of land, the present temple encompasses the shrine of Lord Sri Jagannath, Lord Sri Baladeva and Subhadra Devi.

The bhoomi pooja and excavation of land for constructing a new magnificent temple for Sri Radha Krishna was performed on 09th May 2016 and the construction is underway in a massive scale since then. The new magnificently splendorous temple is expected to attain completion in 3 years and will be dedicated to the public of Coimbatore and its neighbouring regions.

Just as every ISKCON temple, Sri Jagannath Mandir at Coimbatore, is dedicated to provide for both the spiritual and intellectual needs of people from all walks of life through the following services…

The presiding deities at ISKCON Coimbatore are Sri Jagannath, Sri Baladeva and Subhadra devi. Deities found in ISKCON temples are generally made according to explicit details and instructions found in the Vedic texts. Then they are installed in the temple in an elaborate ceremony wherein the Divine personalities are auspiciously welcomed to appear in the form of the Deity. At ISKCON Coimbatore we maintain very high standards in serving the deity, closely following the instructions laid by Srila Prabhupada in the matter.

Nitya seva means Regular or constant service to the deities. Arati, Puja, Deity dresses and decoration, Bhoga (Neivedyam)Offerings, Altar decorations form a major part of the Nitya Seva offered to the deities. By participating in these sevas either directly or indirectly , sevaks receive eternal spiritual benefits.

His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada pioneered an educational revolution all around the world with his pen, mightier that the sword and his words, powerfully transformational, to foist a unique challenge to the human intelligence on this planet.

At Bhaktivedanta Academy, the educational wing of Academia Turiya, several courses are offered to students in order to  facilitate in depth study of Vedic Scriptures at various levels.

At ISKCON, the devotees are trained to engage our natural tendencies, talents, and qualities in the service of Krishna. Devotees engage in congregational chanting of the Holy Name and singing melodious kirtan and Vaishnava Bhajans to the accompaniment of kartals and mridangas, to please their Lordships.

At ISKCON, we strongly believe that  protection of cows is the single-most important principle towards saving the whole world from both moral and spiritual degradation. The Vedas, saints, sadhus, and Lord Krishna himself proclaim that service and protection of Mother Cow is the greatest solution for mankind’s suffering and the path to real peace.ISKCON Coimbatore has opened up Goloka Goshala to protect cows and to provide Goseva opportunities to devotees.

Our Founder Acarya Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami’s most significant contribution to the world is his books. Within the final twenty years of his life, Bhaktivedanta Swami translated over sixty volumes of classic Vedic scriptures (such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam) into the English language. Sankirtan or book distribution of Srila Prabhupada’s books has been the primary welfare activity by ISKCON towards mankind. Our devotees reach out to people in corporates, educational institutions, jails, public places, remote villages and so on, to distribute the priceless wisdom of God realization through Srila Prabhupada’s books.

One of the attractive features of ISKCON Coimbatore is the Harinama Mandapa located right opposite to the temple. It provides a unique way to remember and glorify Lord Krishna by chanting His holy names. The Harinama Mandapa has 108 stepping stones laid around a Garuda Sthamba, and as you step on every stone you have to chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. The holy name of Lord Krishna is non-different from the Lord, Who is all pure. Therefore by repeatedly chanting this mantra, we constantly associate with the Lord. This will cleanse us of all the impurities in our heart. The Harinama Mandapa gives an opportunity for every visitor to chant the Hare Krishna mantra 108 times.

Arati is an offering of love, devotion respect, welcome, or worship to an exalted person. Since the most exalted person is the Supreme Lord, it is most appropriate to offer arati to Him.The all merciful Lord has appeared in the form of the Deity to accept our services.During arati, auspicious items are offered to the deity with utmost adherence to the scriptural injunctions on Deity worship. During Darshana, the devotee enters into a personal, reciprocal exchange with the Supreme Personality in the form of the Deity. At that stage, we view the Deity and the Deity also gazes at us, and then there is a spiritual exchange wherein the Deity begins to reveal His personality to us.In this connection, it is truly amazing to know that the deities at Sri Jagannath Mandir have reciprocated the devotion of several devotees in Their own sweet manner.

ISKCON Coimbatore organizes congregational chanting of the Holy Names of God (Harinama Sankirtana) through the streets of a particular locality. This is especially the method used by Lord Caitanya in this age of Kali to help people revive their lost love for Krsna.  This recommended yajna for Kali yuga offers immense spiritual blessings to everyone involved – even the trees and animals present – what then to speak of the residents and supporters!

ISKCON Coimbatore devotees, on your invitation, can conduct a one-time sat-sanga at your residence, complete with bhajans, lecture on Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita and a full prasadam feast. You may organize such a sat-sanga in connection on significant family occasion, e.g. birthdays, house warming etc. For increased auspiciousness, the sat-sanga can be clubbed along with Nagar Sankirtan.
